To be?  Or not to be?  That is actually the question.

Baby Shower Goodness

A week ago (and a day) I was super glad to be able to go up to Frisco and see my friend Heather and attend her baby shower.  It wasn't until about halfway through it that I got to thinking and I'm pretty sure it was my first legit baby shower as a grown up.  I've given baby gifts, I've made baby gifts but I don't think I've actually attended a shower as an adult...I could be wrong, but I'm like 90% sure b/c I've been contemplating this idea the entire week.

It was wonderful.  Heather's family is going through a bit of a baby boom and we were blessed to have two of the recent additions at the shower.  I have to say...the shower, the cute baby gifts, PLUS not one but TWO tiny babies was enough to give me a pretty bad case of baby fever.

Now, it'll go away like it always does, I'm nothing if not practical.  But I can't wait till Hannah gets here so I can hold a tiny baby and "oo" and "aww" then give it back :)  It's a temporary cure for baby fever and it works pretty good.

After two boys it's fun to see all the pink cuteness

This one is a pro at rockin' babies.  She was in this chair for over an hour rockin a babies

Me, Heather who you probably can't even tell IS pregnant from this view :), and Allison

And the soon to be daddy-again getting some baby holding practice in

And it begins...

I dropped Lincoln off for training in the Cali desert yesterday morning at 4:30 am which means we were awake at 3:15/3:30 and left the house at 4.

I am no morning person, it takes me a while to function appropriately so it wasn't until I drove off that it semi-hit me that I wouldn't get to see him till July...and it wasn't until I walked into our too quiet apartment that I realized I wouldn't be coming back to our apartment until July. And even in July, we'll only have a couple of weeks before he leaves for 6-ish months.

It's a lot to take in in just a week. I know it comes with the territory but at some point there's a decent courtesy that doesn't come with our contract with the military.

After months and months of them telling us Lincoln would NOT deploy, there was NO way he was deploying, get comfortable you're not going anywhere...

Then *BAM* they rip the rug out from under us and everything changes. Everybody else deploying has had almost a year to prepare, get their families settled, make plans for whatever...we got less than 3 months to rearrange our lives.

I get that we're not the only ones, I get that there are people that have it harder than we do, I get that it's his job...but I think the military forgets that this little decision they decided to make on a spur of the moment is something that changes everything for us.

Sometimes I get the feeling that we're just disposable pawns in this game.

Did I mention that he's not even going to do his job...he's just going to fill a spot left by some high tech guy who is taking a break. Lincoln's not even qualified to sit at this guy's desk but he can fill a spot on a list so he's going.

But I'm being supportive, Lincoln is excited about the deployment so I'm excited for him. The base he'll be at in the big big desert should have good communication abilities so we should be able to talk often. Luckily we're in a flexible enough position that rearranging, though it's a hassle, is doable. Also we're lucky enough that this all falls around the beginning of the school year so I'm still hoping to find a teaching job around our hometown so that I'll be able to keep myself busy.

The downside to finding a job will be that I'll be anchored in Texas when Lincoln gets back to California around February... but we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

When I Say I Do

2 years ago today my friend Allison's sister Rachel got married. Today she is getting her wisdom teeth out but I thought I would commemorate the day with this picture. The title was their first dance song, good stuff. It's not very often that I'm in front of the camera...it's even rarer that I'll tolerate the picture that was taken.

This picture was edited once upon a time...I don't remember what exactly I did but I think it involved opening Allison's eyes and removing a card from under my dress shoulder strap.

Allison came and spent a week here in sunny California for her spring break and over the past week has inspired most of my posts. Now that she's gone back to reality so have I...which is quite uneventful. Since Lincoln is 100% (by military standards) not deploying in August and we'll be here another year and a half (again, military standards) I've opened up to the idea of finding a job. Ideally I would like to get a job working with kids in some way. Had looked into being an assistant or working at a daycare.

I learned quickly that apparently in California you have to take a certain number of classes to be qualified to work with children in any form. So either I figure out how to do that or go back to the drawing board and keep looking. There's no extreme hurry, just something to get me out of the apartment and prevent me from becoming a full blown hermit.

In [8] Years Time

Not only is it Texas Independence day (GO TEXAS!) but 8 years ago today I agreed to make things with Lincoln official. I love that it's something we look back on and laugh about how ridiculous I was. I was utterly sickened by the title "girlfriend." All I saw were a bunch of stupid high school relationships that were crap and I didn't want to take part in it so we were together without being labeled.

Anyway, 8 years later and we have the best titles yet. Husband and Wife, and loving every minute :)

Title derived from Noah and the Whale's song "5 Years Time." It's a lovely song, go download it.
